Valentine's day is over, but guess what? We dont have to stop showing people that we love them. For the year 2020, the Dometita gang is going to focus more on kindness. As we get ready for our transition to public school for the 2020-2021 school year, I am terrified of how kids are these days. We have all seen the crazy stories that cover the media (violence, bullying, disrespect). What is the core problem ? Too many things to list but..
Just imagine how things could change if we started loving bigger and throwing kindness around like confetti every where we went. Let's teach our kids.
What can we do as parents?
Lead by example. Talk about kindness more. One way to start the dialog is with reading to your kids. Here are a list of books to check out. Drop us a comment with some of your favorite kids books!
You Make me Happy: Sweet book about love and friendship. "You make me happy, you make me sing, there is a bounce in my footstep like bunnies in spring"
In My Heart: A beautifully designed book about feelings. "my heart is full of feelings. Big feelings and small feelings. Loud feelings and quiet feelings...my heart is like a house, with all these feelings inside."
Love Monster: One of my all time favorites. I have it memorized, haha! A quirky little monster is afraid that he wont find love because he is so different. Spoiler alert, he finds love in the end :)
Love is: The illustrations on this one are beautiful. This story focuses on a littler girl raising a duckling and all of the parallels to parenthood and the sacrifices entailed are spot on. "And love is also watching , waving, wondering if love remembers you, and knowing in a happy instant that love has lasted..."
Hug machine: A silly, adorable story about how hugging people and showing kindness can help people... especially the porcupine who thinks no one loves him because everyone is scared to hug him.
We're all Wonders: Based on the true story and movie "Wonder". This simplified version tells the story of a little boy who looks different... "Look with kindness and you will always find wonder."
Be Kind: This book tells the story of a little girl who decided not to laugh when a classmate spilled juice all over her dress. Kindness shines through in the end with practical examples of how to be a good person.
ABC's of Kindness: a simple abc book with a twist. Perfect for learning the alphabet and emphasizing good virtues.
I Love You Because You're You: A lovely story about how a parent will always love their kids... no matter what they do.
